arrival in nolaTextron Systems employees demonstrate our value of service for others and give back to their local and national communities every day. Some employees have even found a way to use their hobbies to benefit important causes.

Mark Richard, Principal Logistician and SSC ILS Technical Lead for Marine & Land Systems, is a former runner turned cyclist. Last year, Mark participated in the Red Cross Tour du Rouge, a 537 mile cycling tour from Houston to New Orleans in support of the American Red Cross. Growing up in Louisiana, Mark was very familiar with the Red Cross and its disaster relief efforts. Last year’s ride showed Mark first-hand why giving back to the community is so important: “Immediately prior to the Tour du Rouge, there were tornadoes across south Louisiana. We rode through areas where the Red Cross was still active—it was a poignant reminder that the ride is a challenge and it’s fun, but it supports an organization that is synonymous with ‘disaster relief.’”

Mark has also connected with employees from other Textron business units to participate in charity cycling events. Justin Rivera, a Bell Helicopter employee and former runner, is president of Bell Helicopter’s Biking Club that has participated in events such as the Ride 2 Recovery Clay Hunt Honor Ride and the Dallas MS Ride. This year, Justin will be joining Mark in the Tour du Rouge, as he is from Houston and also has a connection to the Red Cross through its disaster relief along the Gulf Coast.
