Continuing to Serve: Henney
In our pursuit of excellence, Textron Systems proudly embraces the rich history of our team members, especially those who have served in the military. Among them is Henney, a seasoned veteran whose unwavering commitment and wealth of experience have become invaluable assets to our organization.
For Henney, the choice to join the military was practically ingrained in his DNA, hailing from a proud lineage of service members. Over the course of his remarkable 16-year military career, Henney, now a Senior Flight Test Operator at Textron Systems, attributes his initial enlistment to the persuasive influence of his cousin, a close relative Henney looked up to for guidance.
During his 16 years with the military, Henney spent time in the U.S. Army as an E-5, where he served two deployments to the Middle East and worked as an Army instructor.
Through numerous training events held by Textron Systems instructors, Henney made several connections and was able to find an opportunity with Textron Systems. His first role with Textron was with the New Equipment Team (NET), where he trained soldiers on how to use new products and equipment.
“Training soldiers back then was just as enjoyable as it is now with Textron Systems,” said Henney, who is also a current Louisiana National Guard service member.
“Working for Textron Systems and being in the National Guard have been mutually beneficial to both aspects of my life,” said Henney, who has been with Textron Systems for over six years. “Having direct access to soldiers I interact with through the National Guard has helped give me more insight into how soldiers really feel about the systems and what they would like to see in the future.”
While the transition to a new company can seem daunting, Henney was welcomed with open arms when he first joined Textron Systems.
“My first supervisor and team really brought me into the family and got me up to speed,” Henney said. “I had no idea how little I knew until they started training me, so I would say they really played a part in turning me into who I am today.”
It was during product testing at a customer facility when Henney knew he had made the right decision to work for Textron Systems.
“There were a lot of little things going on where I was able to take what I knew from National Guard or had learned from the team and was able to really contribute, so that was the first time I felt like I was in the right place doing the right things.”
With many new ideas on the horizon for Textron Systems, Henney is excited for the future – particularly for FTUAS (Future Tactical Unmanned Aircraft System).
As Textron Systems gears up for a future filled with innovation, Henney is particularly excited about the prospects of the Future Tactical Unmanned Aircraft System (FTUAS).
"The more I learn about FTUAS and how it’s building off lessons learned from Shadow, I can see a lot of opportunity," Henney said. "It’s what a tactical system should be – more tactical, more dynamic, and more immediate."
