Celebrating Earth Day with EcoSystems
Every year on April 22, people around the world come together to celebrate Earth Day, a day dedicated to raising awareness about environmental issues and promoting sustainable practices to help protect our planet. At Textron Systems, EcoSystems is a passionate employee resource group (ERG) that focuses on cultivating awareness and actively implementing environmentally sustainable practices in the communities in which we live and work.
Over the last several years, EcoSystems members have planted trees, removed invasive plants from community parks and trails, and co-sponsored Adopt-A-Road cleanup events alongside Textron Systems’ veteran-focused ERG, VETNET. They’ve also partnered with local organizations, such as Cromwell Valley Park and Oregon Ridge Park, to establish ongoing relationships and host volunteer events.
Celebrating Earth Day
This year, EcoSystems is excited to host its second annual Earth Day Fair in Hunt Valley, Maryland, featuring various exhibitors for employees to visit and learn more about local parks, nature centers, planting and growing, volunteer opportunities and more. The team will also have an area dedicated to personal eWaste collection and paper shredding to provide employees with a quick and easy way to properly dispose of materials.
Expanding Community Outreach
While EcoSystems began as the Hunt Valley Green Team, it has since been adopted at other Textron Systems sites, including in Louisiana. After Mardi Gras, the EcoSystems team partnered with Room For All, Textron Systems’ diversity ERG, to sort and recycle leftover beads. The sorted beads were re-sold for future Mardi Gras use and all proceeds went toward The Arc of Greater New Orleans.
EcoSystems also strives to support Textron Inc.’s Achieve 2025 enterprise-wide sustainability goals across categories such as safety, sustainability, greenhouse gas emissions, well-being and resiliency. To learn more about Achieve 2025, click here.
